16. Fish bypass at Hardmead Lock

To improve fish passage throughout the Lea catchment, Hardmead radial gate replacements will also include the construction of a fish pass and an eel pass. This is to allow fish to carry out their lifecycle by migrating upstream and downstream, allowing local populations to interbreed to create stronger immunity, as well as reach the best spawning grounds. 15. Stanstead Abbots NFM

The Environment Agency initiated this project in response to managing flood risk within Stanstead Abbots. This project will run parallel with a scheme to offer Stansted Abbots residents, who are at risk of flooding, Property Flood Resilience options.
