1. Tackling Diffuse Agricultural Pollution

Theme: Water quality

Objectives:

  • Reduce soil and sediment input
  • Reduce chemical pollution

Project description

This project will reduce the impacts of diffuse pollution on water quality and drinking water in the Middle Lea.

Affinity Water will lead a project to identify the sources of diffuse agricultural pollution (mainly run-off of sediment and chemicals from farmland into the river) in the catchment and implement measures to reduce this.  Such measures could include changes to the method and timing of farming practices to benefit both farmers and the envrionment, the creation of buffer strips between farmland and the river, and sustainable drainage systems (SUDS).

Project lead: Affinity Water
Project partners: Landowners and farmers
Funding source: Affinity Water NEP Programme
Project start: April 2015
Project end: March 2019
