2. Managing the channel

Theme: Water Quality, Habitats and Wildlife

Objective:

  • That whatever the flow level, the river and its associated habitats, including banks and floodplains, are managed to support chalk stream species

Project description

To continue with the good management of this section of the Stevenage Brook

This stretch of the Stevenage Brook is one of the better sections, with a nice gravel bed and good channel form.  However, the constant threat of invasive species, especially Himalayan balsam and giant hogweed) and overshading from vegetation mean that the banks of the channel will need to be regularly monitored and managed. This project will continue the landowner’s current management practices and ensure the Brook maintains or improves its current condition.
