19. Stort Navigation in Bishop's Stortford – Reedbeds

Theme: Habitats and wildlife

Objective:

  • To maintain and enhance the river's natural habitats and wildlife

Project description

This project aims to restore and connect habitats up and downstream of Bishop's Stortford through creating reedbeds along the non- towpath side of the Navigation.

The project hopes to create reedbeds along the offside (non-towpath side) of the Navigation throughout Bishop's Stortford.  This would connect upstream and downstream habitats, as well as being a valuable habitat in itself. Currently the offside of the Navigation contains poor habitat and is visually unattractive – the project would reverse this.
