16. Riparian grazing management

Themes: Ecology and management; Public engagement

Objective:

  • Increase local knowledge and appreciation of the river

Project description

This project aims to ameliorate the potentially damaging effects of riparian grazing.

Grazing of river banks by livestock can remove riparian habitat and cause soil to enter the river. This project hopes to provide information and advice to riparian graziers about the potentially damaging effects of overgrazing adjacent to the river, and help provide ways of ameliorating these damaging impacts through agreed bankside fencing projects.
