17. Enhancing Tewinbury SSSI

Theme: Water Quality, Habitats and Wildlife

Objective:

  • That whatever the flow level, the river and its associated habitats, including banks and floodplains, are managed to support chalk stream species

Project description

This project aims to enhance the habitats within the Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and conserve a key population of water voles.

The enhancement of the SSSI includes a number of actions:
- Pollarding of bankside willows
- Repair to the outlet sluice wall
- Desilting of the lagoons
- Reedbed restoration
- Mink control
