34. Water vole habitat suitability survey

  • That whatever the flow level, the river and its associated habitats, including banks and floodplains, are managed to support chalk stream species
  • To monitor the status of the river and its species to gauge if its condition is improving

Project description

The length of the River Beane is to be surveyed to identify suitable areas for water vole reintroductions as part of the Water Vole Reintroduction Project.

 The project will use River Corridor Survey methodoloy to survey the full length of the River Beane in order to identify suitable areas for water vole reintroductions. In addition areas where water vole habitat could be improved will also be identified. 

Volunteer surveyors will be trained to carry out surveys and a final report will be produced identifying the sites with the highest potential for water vole reintroduction.
