On 22 May, the Groundwork Landscape architecture and community teams spent the afternoon consulting members of the public in Houghton Regis over the proposed plans to increase public access to and involvement in the river and promote the river as a community and educational resource.
Groundwork and Houghton Regis Town council propose to open up access to Houghton Brook visually by incorporating a viewing platform accessible with a ramp from the footpath.
This new area would be surfaced with porous resin bound gravel and will include timber seating.
The culvert wall would also be rendered, which would provide an opportunity for art features.
The improvements would also include the removal of existing concrete edging, in order to naturalise the embankment and selective thinning of vegetation will improve the quality of the brook by reducing the overall shading.
Consultation closes on the 31st May 2019, if you would like your say on improving the brook, please follow this link to fill in our survey: https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/houghtonbrook2019
