35. Bury Lodge Wetlands

Themes: Water quality; Biodiversity; Getting people and communities engaged

Objectives:

  • Reduce the frequency and severity of pollution
  • Increase surface water management at source

Project description

Enfield Council have created new wetlands to cleanse rainwater washing off the A10 and surrounding streets before it reaches the Salmons Brook.

Previously oils, heavy metals and pollutants from household plumbing misconnections would all wash straight in, degrading the river and it's potential as wildlife habitat. Now the water will be caught and cleansed in the wetlands, which will also attract new wildlife themselves. These wetlands will slow water down too, helping to reduce the risk of flooding downstream.
