36. Enfield Chase Landscape Recovery
Theme: Water quality
Objective:
- Improve river function and sustainability
Project description
This project has been selected as an Environment Land Management Scheme (ELMS) Landscape Recovery pilot and focuses on improving the water environment, including river restoration, wetlands and natural flood management.
It will take a catchment-based approach to promote land management practices that reduce runoff rates (slow the flow), pollution loading and habitat creation and rewilding (e.g. conservation grazing, beaver reintroduction). Funding has already been received from the EA, Forestry Commission and GLA for early stages of the project. This includes creation of 7km of new footpaths and cycleways to enhance access and help people engage with nature, a key aim of this project.
Project lead: Enfield Council
