14. Rural SUDS

Theme: Ecology and management

Objectives:

  • Improve water quality
  • Increase the amount and quality of in-channel, bankside and floodplain habitat
  • Reduce flood risk

Project description

This project aims to reduce losses of soil and associated nutrients from fields to the river,

By identifying locations where sediment is entering the river or tributary streams (i.e. from agricultural runoff or poaching from livestock), solutions to intercept this sediment can be developed.  These might include watercourse fencing to protect riverbanks, creation of buffer strips, sediment traps etc.
