11. Stort Riverfly Partnership

Themes: Quality; Habitats and wildlife; People

  • To achieve water quality that is good enough to support a healthy aquatic ecology
  • To maintain and enhance the river's natural habitats and wildlife
  • To increase people's awareness, appreciation, education and involvement

Project description

A partnership between the EA, HMWT and Bishop’s Stortford Natural History Society. This project will monitor the water quality of the River Stort and engage local groups with monitoring the health of the river.

We hope to engage local groups with the River Stort by involving them in monitoring water invertebrates, which will indicate water quality. The project will involve the creation of a new Stort Riverfly Partnership. This will include an initial training workshop from the Riverfly Partnership’s methodology and therefore can be aimed at those who do not yet have experience of water invertebrate identification.
