Urgent: this consultation closes on Friday 11 Ocober.

Defra are keen to hear from anyone with an interest in measures for reducing personal water consumption. This is the chance to have your say.

Climate change, population increases, environmental requirements and a growing demand for water mean that current water reserves may not be sufficient, with less water available per person and a significant likelihood of more frequent, severe droughts in the future.

The government's 25 Year Environment Plan commits to reducing personal water use by working with the water industry to set a personal water consumption target and agree cost effective measures to meet it.

This consultation will help Defra understand how domestic personal water usage can be reduced, and what reduction in water consumption is technically feasible and achievable. Respondents are also invited to suggest additional ideas for saving water.

Please visit the Defra Measures to reduce personal water use consultation website [opens in a new tab] for more information and to complete the survey, by Friday 11 October.
