32. Weir Bypass at The Rookery

Themes: Flow; Water Quality, Habitats and Wildlife

Objectives:

  • That whatever the flow level, the river and its associated habitats, including banks and floodplains, are managed to support chalk stream species
  • That water quality, temperature and river bed quality are such that they support chalk stream ecology

Project description

Will bypass a 2m weir with planform restoration upstream to create habitat diversity. Bank re-profiling on the lower reaches of Stevenage Brook.

A 2m weir on will be bypassed with planform restoration upstream to create habitat diversity on an overwide and silted section of the River Beane. The Lower reach of the Stevenage Brook is also affected by backing up from this weir and would also benefit from bank re-profiling to address undercutting of the right bank.
