11. Key Stage 2 'rivers' curriculum tie-in

Theme: People

Objective:

  • To increase the public's appreciation of the unique chalk stream environment and their participation in its conservation

Project description

This project aims to increase awareness of the Beane and the impact of Stevenage on the river. 'Rivers' is part of the Year 5 Geography curriculum so it is a perfect tie-in.

There are a number of ways by which a curriculum tie-up could be achieved:
- School packs
- Teacher pack
- Visits to schools by relevant project officers/volunteers
- School trips/visits to the river

It is hoped a combination of these methods will be used.

Project partners: River Beane Restoration Association; Stevenage Borough Council; Herts & Middlesex Wildlife Trust
Funding source: Unknown, but could link to Living Rivers Project, Wild Stevenage Project, the Council’s Biodiversity Action Plan target
Project start: 2013
Project end: Ongoing
