12. Improving Fish Passage on the River Ash

Theme: Ecology and biodiversity

Objectives:

  • Identify specific problems facing the catchment
  • Remove physical barriers along the river

Project description

The project aims to ease fish movement through the Lower Ash Valley.

The project will consider four weirs which are currently making it difficult for fish to move upstream. These blockages have resulted in the Lower Ash being classified as ‘moderate’ in the Water Framework Directive (WFD) , failing on the fish element of its assessment.

The Environment Agency has provided funding to HMWT to carry out the work on their behalf.
