4. River Lea Education Resources

Themes: Community engagement and participation; Improving water quality and water quantity

Objectives:

  • Promote the river as a community and educational resource
  • Educate the general public and local businesses about its role in water quality and quantity improvements

Project description

A variety of projects are available for schools and other educational centres throughout Luton.

The main focuses are teacher training and Curriculum-linked education projects (including field trips, classroom work and building inter-school relationships).

If you'd like to use the River Lea and its tributaries to bring the curriculum to life, download our fantastic, free field trip resource. Plus, use this generic risk assessment form to give you a head start - just tailor it for your visits.

We are keen to do more work with schools in Luton and the surrounding areas. If you'd like to find out more about what's possible and how your school can get involved, please get in touch (contact details are at the bottom of this page).

Completed work:

As well as the Only Rain Down the Drain project, we have also run a two-part teacher training course called 'Making better use of your local environment'. The first session was classroom based and took place in September 2014, whereas the second session (in March 2015) was hands-on, incorporating feedback from teachers to give them the skills, experience and materials they need to use the River Lea in their work.
