37. Houghton Brook proposals

Theme: Community engagement and participation

Objectives:

  • Increase public access to and involvement in the river
  • Promote the river as a community and educational resource

Project description

Groundwork will open up access to Houghton Brook visually by incorporating a viewing platform accessible with a ramp from the footpath. This new area will be surfaced with porous resin bound gravel and will include timber seating.

The culvert wall will also be rendered, which will provide an opportunity for art features.

The improvements also include the removal of existing concrete edging, in order to naturalise the embankment.

Along the brook, selective thinning of vegetation will amerliorate the quality of the brook by reducing the overal shading.
